Supporting Maine's family farms
At the heart of Maple’s has always been a commitment to sourcing as many of our ingredients as possible directly from local family farms. We’re proud of what Maine produces, and of the hardworking families that dedicate their lives to tending for their land, animals, and communities. Here are some of the local superstars that make what we do exceptionally delicious.
Maine's Own Organic Milk
At Maple's, farm-fresh milk and cream are the heart and soul of our gelati. So we are extremely proud to use Maine's Own Organic dairy, bought direct from a cooperative of organic family dairy farms here in Maine. Not only do we get to savor the freshest, finest milk and cream available, we know that we and our customers are helping to keep families farming their land and raising happy cows. All of the farms in the cooperative adhere to the highest standards of organic integrity and animal welfare, and we thank them for working hard!
Sparrow Farm
It's a good day every week when one of the team from Sparrow Farm in Gardiner, Maine walks through our door with the delivery of farm-fresh eggs. We crack them open and the golden yolks just about glow with nutrients and flavor. These are the best eggs we have ever tasted, and they're made better knowing how well Ted and Karen Sparrow care for their land and their flock of hardworking laying hens.
Crown O' Maine Organic Cooperative
These are the people that make it all possible for many organic farmers and producers in rural Maine. Marada and the team at COMOC, carrying on with her father Jim's ambitious vision, bring produce and artisanal foods form the nooks and crannies of our largely rural state to the larger markets in the south. When we need organic blueberries for Wild Blueberry gelato, or sweet pie pumpkins for our seasonal Spiced Pumpkin gelato, we call up Marada and she makes the connection for us. Without COMOC, many small farmers and producers would have no financially feasible was to sell what they create....and the rest of us would miss out on the best of what Maine has to offer.
